Our Experience
We provide these examples of how we have met the needs of other customers with the expectation that it will help you evaluate whether we will be able to help you with your project.
A few projects which give insight into our experience:
1. Conversion of medical records database from 8 legacy systems to a consolidated SQL Server database -- This process involved extracting 30,000 records from 8 databases of 5 different types--PC, 2 Unix and 2 proprietary. The extracted data first needed to be re-formatted and many fields scrubbed, such as dates, telephone numbers, Zip codes and social security numbers. In two of the databases the data from two extractions needed to be linked, and this was done with an Excel VBA procedure. Next the more than 80 data fields were imported into Access, mapped to the new database, and reorganized from flat field to the new relational format. Then the data records were uploaded from Access to the SQL Server database tables one at a time. Finally the data fields were checked for validity and data format. Careful analysis and considerable custom programming effort provided the desired result. For more information on Data Conversion
2. Access custom invoicing and payment receiving application -- An Access database and application was custom designed to meet special customer requirements. Forms were designed for the entry of time data, payment data, and customer records. Then a number of custom reports were prepared for invoicing and bank deposits.
3. Custom reports for 3rd party Access accounting system -- This project required a study of the 3rd party accounting system to determine how tables were linked, working with the customer to develop specifications for the required reports and the preparation of multiple custom reports.
4. R:Base donations and bank deposit system with data flow from R:Base and from Quicken via Excel to Access reports -- The R:Base donations record system was developed to provide forms for data entry and bank deposit reports. The Quicken check writing system was in place and meeting customer needs. However a number of additional reports were required. After analysis, it was determined that the entire application should be migrated to Access in several phases. The first phase involved porting the data from R:Base to Access. The second stage involved writing an Excel VBA module to convert the Quicken data to several Access tables. Then several Access reports were written. The final stages will convert the R:Base and Quicken functions to the native Access application.
5. R:Base applications for invoicing, payroll and inventory -- In each case the design included the database, forms, reports and menus.
