In the internet business, power is a function of wires, since it
is through wires, copper or fiber, that the internet interconnects.
To be sure we had enough wires, we gutted an existing
structure and rebuilt it entirely. Working with the SNET design team
headed by Jeff Blatherwick, we designed a system with long term growth in
mind. SNET provided Mohawk with a dedicated 300 pair copper cable direct
from their digital switching center in Sharon. Our outbound service is via
the route 4 fiber optic line.
Mohawk operates multiple PRI's for digital service in all of CT and Eastern NY State.
These provide digital 64K ports and service, 56K modems with compression.
Mohawk maintains multiple servers so that there is both a
distribution of labor and a redundancy of critical functions. It is
transparent to users which server is servicing the user's current task.
Mohawk offers many different sorts of services including
Dial-up accounts, high speed connection accounts, multiple user accounts,
Web Site creation and hosting, private server hosting, and information
services.
Mohawk dial-up customers get full, unlimited (but not continuous) access to
the internet including email,
and space for a personal Web Site. Each user gets a private directory, a
default web page, and a UNIX shell if requested in order to access that directory.
Both SSH2 and FTP are supported.
Mohawk Virtual Host customers are hosted on redundant
servers and are backed up on a third. A CDROM is created for each mature
site to provide for off-site backup. Customized email allows all mail to
be processed from the outside world as if the Virtual Host were in fact a
physical computer in its own right.
Mohawk Private Server Customers have their own custom
built machines on racks where they are monitored daily. Fee includes
machine, hardware, service, commitment, and priority care. All servers are
powered by battery and are not vulnerable to most power outages.
Private incoming access lines are also offered.
We also have 24/7 support for an additional cost.
